How do I change the default email app that drafts open in?
Ren drafts personalized, contextual messages you can send via your default email app. If Ren is not opening your preferred email app, you can change the default by following the instructions below.
Windows
- Press the Windows key on your computer.
- Start typing "Default app" (a search bar will appear automatically) and choose the Default apps option that appears.
- Change Email to your preferred email app. If you use a browser-based email app (e.g. Gmail), choose your browser (e.g. Google Chrome).
MacOS
- Open the Mail app.
- In the top-left corner of your screen, select Mail > Settings.
- In General, Default email reader, choose your preferred email app. If you use a browser-based email (e.g. Gmail), choose your browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Safari).
iOS
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Apps.
- Scroll down and select the Mail app.
- Set Default email app to your preferred email app.
- Open the Ren app.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Turn off Use Default iOS Mail.
Gmail and Browser-Based Email Apps
If you use a browser-based email platform and already set your browser as the default email app (see instructions above for your specific device) but still can’t get your drafts to open, please submit a support ticket.
If you set your default email app as Chrome but are being brought to a blank Chrome window. You’ll need to adjust your protocol handler settings by following the steps below:
- Navigate to Chrome Settings → Privacy and Security → Site settings → Additional Permissions → Protocol Handlers
- Select "Don't allow sites to handle protocols."
- Refresh the page
- Select "Sites can handle protocols"
- Open Gmail in a new tab → there should be the protocol handler icon near the URL (it looks like two diamonds)→ Select the protocol handler icon and click "Allow"
